“I'm perfectly capable of reading 7,400 pages and still getting my required eight hours of sleep before the bus picks me up at promptly at 8:00 a.m. tomorrow. Now if you'll excuse me, I'd like to get started.”

"Nautical Novice" is the second segment of the second episode of season 6, and it is paired with "Penny Foolish." In this episode, SpongeBob gains an extensive amount of knowledge on boating history so he can impress Mrs. Puff during a trip to the Boating Museum.

Characters[edit]

Plot[edit]

As class is dismissed, Mrs. Puff tells everyone that they'll be going on a trip to the Boating Museum. This gives SpongeBob the idea to gain an extensive amount of boating knowledge to impress Mrs. Puff and get a drivers license, so he reads a book about boating history.

However, he takes the entire night to read it and misses the bus going to the museum, but successfully catches up to it and gets on. He starts telling Mrs. Puff many facts about boating and boats, until they reach the museum. Inside, Mrs. Puff leads the tour, but SpongeBob constantly interrupts her to tell the students information about things that she was about to say.

At the end of the tour, Mrs. Puff notices SpongeBob has gone missing, and it turns out he was at the cockpit of the boat. He thinks the AC is the start button but when he turns it on, it blows the key to the side, starting the boat. Mrs. Puff comes up and tells him to stop the boat, but he accidentally puts it on turbo speed.

She panics as she tries to stop it, and afterwards tries telling SpongeBob how to stop it. However, he stops her and tries to stop the boat himself. He first battens down the hatches, and then lowers the anchor, but it gets stuck, so he goes outside to bring it out. After getting back inside, he performs the Reverse 7/20 Tail Spin, and successfully stops the boat before it hits town.

The two get out and Mrs. Puff is about to give SpongeBob his drivers license. However, they find out a tugboat was tugging the museum to port, so Mrs. Puff rips his license.
