"Pest of the West" is the sixteenth episode of season 5. In this episode, SpongeBob reads about how his western ancestor, SpongeBuck, saved Dead Eye Gulch.

Plot[edit]
SpongeBob learns that Patrick, Mr. Krabs, and Sandy had famous relatives, but gets sad as he's never had a famous relative. Sandy brings him to the library where he reads about his western ancestor, SpongeBuck, and how he saved Dead Eye Gulch, what Bikini Bottom was known as, back in the day.
The story begins with SpongeBuck arriving at Dead Eye Gulch and exploring the place until he reaches the Krusty Kantina. He buys some milk and wants the job as the fry cook, but William Krabs, the owner of the restaurant, gives him the job of sheriff as the old one passed away.
Pecos Patrick comes in and says Dead Eye is coming. SpongeBuck wonders who he is, so everyone sings a song about him. Dead Eye comes in and takes William Krabs' money, and says he'll come back at high noon tomorrow for the deed. However, SpongeBuck steps up and says that's not his money. He tells him to vamoose, making SpongeBuck scared and run off in a coffin.
Just as he's about to lose hope, Pecos comes and tells him he needs to save the town from Dead Eye, and after a bit of encouragement, the two go back to Dead Eye Gulch to face Dead Eye. Meanwhile, Dead Eye takes the clothes off of Krabs, Hopalong, and Puff's backs, and as they're ready to admit defeat, SpongeBuck and Pecos come and they plan to have them all work together to defeat Dead Eye at high noon.
He huddles them all together to tell the plan, but it turns out he doesn't have one. Dead Eye comes back and it is now high noon, so he and SpongeBuck slowly walk to each other for the final showdown. Eventually, SpongeBuck accidentally steps on him, automatically making him win and everyone cheers for him.
William Krabs allows people to step on Dead Eye in exchange for money, while the town builds a statue of SpongeBuck to commemorate him, and Krabs gives him the title of fry cook. SpongeBob is amazed by the story and wonders what happened to the statue. He sees the statue covered in jellyfish poop and cleans it, revealing SpongeBuck's statue. Back in the past at Dead Eye Gulch, SpongeBuck and Pecos Patrick sing a song about Idiot Friends.
