"Spy Buddies" is the first segment of the fourth episode of season 5, and it is paired with "Boat Smarts" and "Good Ol' Whatshisname." In this episode, Mr. Krabs hires SpongeBob and Patrick to spy on Plankton to see if he's planning anything big.

Plot[edit]
Mr. Krabs is checking to see if the formula is safe, while SpongeBob comes in and turns the light on. He asks him to spy on Plankton to see if he's planning anything big, and he accepts. Patrick comes by and learns that SpongeBob has become a spy and wants to become one too, so Mr. Krabs hires Patrick for the job as well. They give them a Krabby Patty with their instructions, which they listen to at SpongeBob's house.
They get spy gadgets from Sandy by knocking her out with her own knockout ray. Later, they spy on Plankton buying baby clothes and a stamp. They follow him closer with a magnifying glass, only to burn him and make him panic. They use their jet pack, but end up losing control and lose track of Plankton. They go to the spy mobile, only for Patrick to accidentally make it self-destruct.
Afterward, Patrick uses his laser pants to get him and SpongeBob into the Chum Bucket, only for Plankton to find them and serve them, thinking they want to come while Mr. Krabs is unaware. Patrick feels his laser pants are not working right and as Plankton offers him several of his meals, his laser pants burst and destroy the restaurant.
Plankton comes out with a blimp with SpongeBob and Patrick on top and goes to the Krusty Krab and cranks up loud music, driving the customers away. Mr. Krabs sucks the customers back in and uses them as ammo to destroy the blimp. Meanwhile, Patrick jumps off the blimp and lands in Mr. Krabs' cannon and gets shot back into the blimp, puncturing it and causing it to fly around until eventually destroying the Krusty Krab. Plankton gets the formula, but it turns out he was Mr. Krabs, as he and Plankton had a bet to switch roles.
