“I'm ready!”
SpongeBob
This article is about the main character. For the franchise of the same name, see SpongeBob SquarePants (franchise). For other uses, see SpongeBob SquarePants (disambiguation).

SpongeBob SquarePants is the main and titular protagonist of the SpongeBob SquarePants franchise. He is a yellow sea sponge that lives in a pineapple with his pet snail, Gary. SpongeBob's best friend is Patrick, and his other friend is Sandy. SpongeBob works as the fry cook of the Krusty Krab and is skilled at making Krabby Patties. He frequently attends Mrs. Puff's Boating School despite not knowing how to properly drive a boatmobile. Some of SpongeBob's favorite activities during his free time are jellyfishing, blowing bubbles, or practicing karate. He has been portrayed by Tom Kenny since the start of the series.

Although SpongeBob is generally good-natured, his personality is juvenile and overly optimistic, often to the annoyance of other characters, especially his teacher Mrs. Puff and his grouchy neighbor, Squidward.

General information

Physical appearance

SpongeBob in his sleepwear.

SpongeBob is an anthropomorphic sea sponge, although he resembles a kitchen sponge. His arms and legs are thin, retractable, and slightly disproportionate from his body. SpongeBob has three black, wiry eyelashes, and his eyes have sky-blue irises with very dilated pupils. Sometimes, when SpongeBob is upset or afraid, his nose points down. SpongeBob has two prominent front teeth on the upper part of his mouth. His body is flexible and capable of transforming into other shapes. SpongeBob can absorb physical attacks, such as punches, and large amounts of water. If SpongeBob's arms or legs fall off, he can either reattach them or regrow new ones.

Most of the time, SpongeBob is wearing a private school uniform consisting of a business shirt, a red necktie, and brown pants. He wears a pair of white briefs beneath, black, shiny shoes, and knee-length socks with a red stripe and a blue stripe. On special occasions, SpongeBob often wears a red bowtie instead of a necktie.

Before going to bed, SpongeBob is sometimes shown wearing a separate sleepwear outfit that consists of a light blue nightcap and pajamas, or in his underwear, and sometimes goes to bed in his clothes. While at the beach or going swimming, SpongeBob wears blue (in seasons 1-3) or red (in season 6 and onward) shorts with white laces. While working at the Krusty Krab, SpongeBob has a white hat with an anchor on it and a black front of the part of the hat.

===Careers=== He works like poop SpongeBob works as a fry cook, server, and cleaner at the Krusty Krab. Depending on the episode, he can sometimes be seen doing other jobs. SpongeBob has worked at various Krusty Krab variations, such as the Krusty Towers, Kuddly Krab, and Krabby O'Mondays. In "Jolly Lodgers," he and Patrick work at the Hotel Halibut, delivering room service, and wear blue uniforms. In "Code Yellow," SpongeBob is mistaken for a doctor at the Bikini Bottom Hospital due to his white visitor's outfit. While he does good work, after performing a nose job on Squidward, he leaves for work at the Krusty Krab. In "Insecurity Guards," Patrick gets a job at the Bikini Bottom Museum of Everything and gives SpongeBob a guard outfit, hiring him as a "junior assistant." SpongeBob works as a lifeguard in "SpongeGuard on Duty" so he can be cool like Larry, but fails to rescue Patrick and has to be rescued himself by Larry. SpongeBob is also shown as a lifeguard, along with a hotel owner, in "Patrick's Staycation" while pretending that Patrick's house is a hotel.

In "SpongeBob You're Fired," SpongeBob works at four restaurants, all of which he is fired from after a few minutes: Wet Noodle, Taco Sombrero, Pizza Piehole, and Weenie Hut. In "Model Sponge," SpongeBob gets a job as a bank teller; in both this episode and "What Ever Happened to SpongeBob?" he is also a construction worker. SpongeBob is a certified Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy impostor, as shown in "Shuffleboarding."
