'''"The Lost Mattress"''' is the first segment of the second episode of [[season 4]], and it is paired with "[[Krabs vs. Plankton]]." In this episode, [[SpongeBob]], [[Patrick]], and [[Squidward]] get [[Mr. Krabs]] a new mattress, but have to retrieve it back upon realization that his money was in the old one.

==Plot==
Squidward arrives late to the [[Krusty Krab]], only to see SpongeBob panicking as it's closed. Mr. Krabs comes and tries to unlock the door, only to drop his keys due to SpongeBob getting excited as he came and snaps on him. He apologizes and says his back is hurting him because of his mattress. SpongeBob comes up with a plan to surprise Mr. Krabs with a new mattress.

He goes to a [[Mattresses & Then Some|mattress store]] with Patrick and tests out some mattresses, until eventually they buy one. At the Krusty Krab, they are making a card for Mr. Krabs, when Squidward sees and signs it for all of them. At [[Mr. Krabs and Pearl's house|Mr. Krabs' house]], he notices his mattress his cozy, and soon after SpongeBob, Patrick, and Squidward tell him they got him a new mattress.

It turns out they threw the old one into [[The Dump]], but Mr. Krabs goes crazy and gets a cash-coma as all his money was in his old mattress. The three go back to The Dump to retrieve the mattress, when they notice a guard worm. Squidward sends the other two to retrieve the mattress without waking the worm. However, when they climb up, the fence flips and Squidward ends up at the other side.

Later, Squidward has the role of retriever while SpongeBob and Patrick are worm bait. The worm comes up to the worm bait, only to get intrigued by the wooden spoon SpongeBob's holding. He makes the worm play fetch, only for the spoon to land on Squidward as he's getting the mattress and get beaten up by the worm. 

During all of this, Mr. Krabs gets sent out of his hospital room as he can't afford it. Later, the nurse moves him out of the hospital so the doctors can get to the candy machine. Afterward, administrator Flotsam tells them they can't leave patients on the sidewalk, so the nurse pushes him away. Meanwhile, Squidward has SpongeBob dress as meat in another attempt to retrieve the mattress, only for Mr. Krabs to roll over and finally reunite with his mattress.
