“Today, we'll be discussing the differences between a driver with boat smarts and a driver without boat smarts.”
Mrs. Puff

"Boat Smarts" is the second segment of the fourth episode of season 5, and it is paired with "Spy Buddies" and "Good Ol' Whatshisname." In this episode, Mrs. Puff demonstrates good boat smarts and bad boat smarts in a documentary.

Characters[edit]

Plot[edit]

The video starts with Mrs. Puff explaining that there are good and bad drivers, who Squidward and SpongeBob respectively portray. She first demonstrates tire pressure, which Squidward demonstrates correctly by filling his tire to the appropriate measure, while SpongeBob portrays it wrongly by pumping it too much, crushing half of Squidward's boat and the wheel popping in front of him.

She then demonstrates buckling up, where Squidward puts on his seatbelt and drives safely, while SpongeBob drives in a dangerous manner without his seatbelt. He hits Squidward's boat, causing the seat with Squidward on it to fly into a steamroller, severely hurting him.

Next, she demonstrates adjusting mirrors, which Squidward does correctly, while SpongeBob does incorrectly and the light blinds Squidward, leading to him crashing into a brick wall.

Finally, she demonstrates that drivers must pay attention to their surroundings and avoid distractions, which Squidward successfully does but SpongeBob fails to do. Because of how unaware of his surroundings he is while driving his boat, he causes ruckus on the street leading to everyone crashing into each other. He causes Squidward to crash as well, and tells him and Mrs. Puff they forgot their boat smarts, and the video ends.
