It is named after the titular character, SpongeBob SquarePants who lives in a pineapple in an undersea location named Bikini Bottom. SpongeBob has a number of friends and acquaintances such as Squidward, Patrick, Gary and Mr. Krabs.
The titular animated television series is the main and the most notable part of the franchise. The franchise has spawned numerous video games and merchandise.
