Patrick watches a commercial about a guy who buys houses, and after saying his [[Patrick's house|house]] was "sold," he actually thinks his house got sold. He moves in with SpongeBob, but the commercial comes on in his TV and also thinks his [[SpongeBob's house|house]] got sold. They become homeless, but resolve this issue by making a house using trash from the [[Krusty Krab]]'s dumpster.
After watching a commercial about a guy named Nick Fishkins who sells houses, Patrick thinks his house got sold. SpongeBob invites him to stay at his place, but end up watching the same commercial at night, leaving them homeless. They go to the [[Krusty Krab]], where they make a house out of the trash from the restaurant's trash.  


In the morning, Squidward wakes up and goes to work happily. However, when he goes to take out the trash, he realizes he was only happy as his neighbors weren't present. When he finds out why SpongeBob and Patrick are living in a garbage home, he at first tries to comment on how stupid they are for thinking this, but realizes he can finally live alone without them because of this, and leaves them be.
In the morning, Squidward wakes up and goes to the Krusty Krab in a happy mood. However, he becomes gloomy again after seeing SpongeBob and Patrick in their trash house as he's taking out the trash. He finds out what happened to them and sees this as his chance to live alone.  


As they are leaving, SpongeBob and Patrick want to visit their old homes, so Squidward, not wanting them to come, says there's a german family living in SpongeBob's home and a rock band living in Patrick's house.  
At night, Squidward is excited to go home, when SpongeBob and Patrick want to visit their old homes. He tells the two that a German family and a rock band respectively have moved into their homes. However, they still go to their old homes anyway, so Squidward dresses as a German man to trick SpongeBob into thinking his house is now owned by German fish.


He goes home to relax, but notices SpongeBob knocking on his door, expecting a german family. He quickly dresses up as a german man and opens the door, but it turns out he had actually learned german. He sees Patrick approaching his house, so he quickly makes SpongeBob sit down in the living room so he can dress up as a rock star and go to Patrick's home.
Later, he sees Patrick going to his house, so he dresses as a rock band member and says he can play the electric clarinet. However, SpongeBob calls and he goes over to his house, still in the rock band costume. He gives him a meal and then sends him outside, only for him to want his children to sing for him. He goes back to Patrick's house to prove that he can play the electric clarinet.  


There, he asks him what he plays, and in response says he plays the electric clarinet. After Patrick asks to prove it, he goes back to SpongeBob's home, who thinks that Gerhard's wife had come as Squidward was still in his rock star attire. He gives him a "german" meal, and then goes back to Patrick to show himself playing the electric clarinet.
He then goes back to SpongeBob's house to sing for him using puppets as the Fishtrap children, with Patrick coming along to watch as well. When Patrick suggests they bring the band from his house to come over, Squidward snaps and tells the two their houses weren't really sold as Nick Fishkin's job is to flip houses. When he calls him to flip his own house, SpongeBob and Patrick literally flip it for him. When Nick arrives, he doesn't want to buy the house as it's broken, to Squidward's dismay.  
 
When he comes back to SpongeBob's, he asks SpongeBob to leave, but he wants to see the Fishtrap children sing. He tries to do so, but once Patrick arrives and wants to get the people from his old home to join, he gives up and tells the two that their homes weren't sold and that Nick Fishkins flips houses, and he'll get his house flipped so he can go away. Later, the two literally flip his house, and afterwards Nick Fishkins arrives and doesn't want to sell his house due to how broken it is after getting flipped.

"Sold!" is the first segment of the twentieth episode of season 9, and it is paired with "Lame and Fortune." In this episode, SpongeBob and Patrick think their houses were sold after watching a commercial about a guy who "flips" houses.
