“Don't worry Squidward, we're boating buddies now! I'll teach you everything I know, and then we can.”

"Boating Buddies" is the first segment of the ninth episode of season 6, and it is paired with "The Krabby Kronicle." In this episode, Squidward has to go to boating school after receiving a ticket while trying to get away from SpongeBob.

SpongeBob is brushing Gary's shell, when he hears Squidward breathing and starts bothering him. He gets annoyed and walks away, only for SpongeBob to follow him. He runs to his car, but doesn't have the key. SpongeBob reaches him and gives him the key, allowing him to drive away from him. Unfortunately, he crashes into a stop sign and gets a ticket from a police officer to be sent to boating school.

He arrives there, only to realize SpongeBob attends boating school too and gets seated next to him during class. Mrs. Puff asks the students to tell how they got enrolled in boating school, so Squidward demonstrates on the chalkboard the entire situation that lead to him being sent to boating school.

When he's done, SpongeBob demonstrates his side of the story, but ends up making a drawing of stating that he and Squidward are boating buddies. During lunch, SpongeBob follows Squidward wherever he seats, so he goes into the bathroom. He thinks he sees SpongeBob in the next stall, but when he bangs on his door to yell at him, it turns out a muscular guy was sitting there and he beats him up.

Later, SpongeBob takes a boating test with Squidward, but drives the boat uncontrollably throughout the course of the drive, leading to Squidward once again getting injured by the muscular guy. The class then has a test, but when SpongeBob tries to help Squidward, he tells him he doesn't need help. After accidentally dropping his pencil, Squidward asks SpongeBob for help and they become boating buddies, but by then time has run out and he has to attend boating school again next week.
