"Squid Plus One" is the first segment of the twelfth episode of season 9, and it is paired with "The Executive Treatment." In the episode, Squidward receives an invitation to a gallery opening and has to find a friend to take with him.

Plot[edit]
Squidward prepares lunch when he is interrupted by SpongeBob knocking at the door. After SpongeBob shows Squidward that he found a jump rope, he slams the door and goes back to his lunch. He is again interrupted by Norton, the mailman, who delivers an invitation to the opening of Galleria Diphteria that night, with a "plus one" invitation. Afraid that people will see him as a loser if he goes alone, Squidward asks SpongeBob which way Norton went and meets him at the Widow Duncan's house.
Squidward introduces himself to Norton, and they realize that they both like art and fancy food. Once Norton talks about how much he hates clarinets, Squidward leaves. As he is walking, he finds a tin can telephone, with SpongeBob speaking through the other end. He sees a protein powder label on the can and goes to find Larry, who invites him to ride a jet ski. Larry and Squidward proceed to play pool, watch a movie, and play instruments. Larry agrees to go to Squidward to the gallery opening until Squidward begins insulting Larry for drinking protein shakes, smashing him into the ground and leaving.
SpongeBob gets Squidward out with the jump rope, and Squidward invites him to go to the opening. That night, Squidward arrives at Galleria Diphteria, with SpongeBob wheeling a full-length mirror next to Squidward so he goes with his reflection instead. Perch Perkins describes this as a "sad display of loneliness" as paparazzi take pictures of Squidward and the mirror.
