"Funny Pants" is the second segment of the fifth episode of season 4, and it is paired with "Selling Out." In this episode, Squidward tells SpongeBob his laugh box will burn out if he doesn't stop laughing for 24 hours to get him to stop laughing at a joke he made.

Plot[edit]
Squidward is sleeping when SpongeBob knocks on his house to tell him it's time for work. He says "another day, another dollar," and he laughs a little bit. only for Squidward to say “more like another nickel.” witch makes him loose it he thinks it's so funny that. SpongeBob laughs at this all day at the Krusty Krab, heavily annoying Squidward. The next day, he continues laughing at it while feeling an ache in his side and goes into the kitchen.
Squidward sees this and gets the idea to tell SpongeBob he's been burning out his laugh box because of his immense laughing and he should stop for 24 hours or else he'll no longer be able to laugh. SpongeBob listens and leaves the restaurant, only to constantly encounter funny things. He runs out of Bikini Bottom and hides under the sand for 24 hours. When he gets out, he finds out he can't laugh anymore.
He informs Patrick about this, so he checks inside him, but accidentally burns him after lighting a match to see in there. Later, he informs Mr. Krabs, who has him look and touch money as that makes him laugh, but it doesn't work. Afterward, he goes to Sandy, who gives him books about laughter, but still can't laugh after reading them.
Squidward enjoys that SpongeBob isn't laughing anymore. Throughout the night, SpongeBob constantly cries about his laughter being gone, to the point where his tears flood Squidward's house the next morning. He goes to SpongeBob's house and tells him he made up the laugh box scheme to get him to stop laughing. He realizes he can still laugh and Squidward laugh's with him
However, Squidward ends up laughing too much and breaks his laugh box. He gets sent to the hospital, where his laugh box gets replaced with part of SpongeBob's, making his laugh sound like his.
