“We're waiting for the mailman. He's bringing me a free toy.”

"Waiting" is the second segment of the third episode of season 5, and it is paired with "Rise and Shine" and "Fungus Among Us." In this episode, SpongeBob waits for a toy to arrive in the mail.

Characters[edit]

Plot[edit]

SpongeBob is shopping at the Barg N' Mart, and when he buys cereal, the box has a label stating that there's a free prize inside. However, when he goes home to get his prize, it turns out there was an offer inside and he needs to send in 99 box tops to get his prize. After doing that, he starts waiting outside along with Patrick.

The mailman comes, but the mail he delivers doesn't include the toy. Later, the two get very hungry, so Patrick suggests they go to the Krusty Krab. However, SpongeBob gets worried that the mailman might come when he's gone, so Patrick goes alone. Afterward, Sandy comes by to play karate with him, but he tells her he's busy. Gary wants SpongeBob to fill his bowl, but he can't as he's waiting for his toy.

SpongeBob snaps when Patrick comes by, but it turns out he missed his surprise birthday party and he was just bringing him some cake and a present. He tries to find the fork and puts the cake in his mouth, but accidentally eats it and remembers the present is the fork. SpongeBob gets extremely upset about what he's done, until the mailman comes with the toy.

They get excited and start playing with it, but Patrick seemingly breaks. SpongeBob gets angry at him while Squidward walks home. Annoyed by their blubbering, he asks them what's going on. After SpongeBob tells what happened, Squidward fixes the toy and tells them that's what it's supposed to do. They are happy again and hug Squidward.
