“Boy, the new Squidward sure is friendly.”

"Breath of Fresh Squidward" is the second segment of the seventh episode of season 5, and it is paired with "To Love a Patty." In this episode, after getting shocked by his electric fence, Squidward becomes nice, but his new attitude starts causing SpongeBob to lose the things he loves.

Squidward is sleeping, when he hears SpongeBob and Patrick in his house. He learns that they come to his house every morning to watch the sunrise with him as a pastime. Squidward tells them for three hours he never wants to see them as his brain gets a thunderstorm and his happy gland gets the flu until they leave.

Later, Squidward puts an electric fence around his house, only for SpongeBob and Patrick to be inside. He tries to catapult them, but they fly back inside. He tells them to get out from the door, but when he touches it, he electrocutes himself. SpongeBob and Patrick go out to the petting zoo, when Squidward wants to go there with them. They do several fun activities together until night.

In the morning, Squidward starts doing nice deeds throughout SpongeBob's morning routine. At the Krusty Krab, he wants to work with SpongeBob behind the grill, much to his dismay. Mr. Krabs makes Squidward go back in front to serve the customers, but when he starts offering stuff for free, he sends him back to the kitchen.

He makes Krabby Patties, but SpongeBob throws them away as Squidward isn't a professional. However, Mr. Krabs stops him as Squidward is now a fry cook and may be just as good as him. Later, Mr. Krabs seems to be mad about SpongeBob making a patty with a face, so he pinpoints Squidward as the maker. It turns out Mr. Krabs loves it and gives Squidward the Employee of the Month award.

Patrick comes by with SpongeBob's cake, but realizes Squidward won the reward and modifies it to congratulate him. He has a party for him at his house, which SpongeBob attends. He sees that Squidward is pogo-dancing with Patrick, making him snap and yell at him, causing him to get sad and leave. SpongeBob realizes he was too harsh on Squidward and forgives him while he's getting electrocuted by his fence again. He and Patrick touch him, leading to them all turning into grumps.
