"Ripped Pants" is the second segment of the second episode of the first season of the SpongeBob SquarePants series. It first aired on Nickelodeon in the United States on July 17, 1999. It centers on the titular character SpongeBob SquarePants at the beach with Sandy making a funny joke, however Spongebob would overuse the joke to the point where it was unfunny. The segment was paired with "Bubblestand" in its first airing.

Plot[edit]
The episode starts with the French Narrator introducing the viewer to Goo Lagoon. then it cuts to Spongebob and Sandy having a good time, with Spongebob trying to make Sandy laugh. however Larry comes and asks them if they want to lift some weights, although Sandy says yes, Spongebob is alittle sad, but he follows them anyway. when they get to the place they are lifting weights, Larry asks Sandy to pick up a weight,which she does with ease and the audiences claps, Spongebob congratulates her, but wanting to go back he tells them we should go back, but Larry still picks up the weight with some ease with the audience also clapping, this makes Spongebob alittle mad, wanting the attention Spongebob picks up a stick, wanting the audience to congratulate Spongebob, however none of them do clap. But then Sandy picks up another, bigger weight which makes the audience clap, but then Larry picks up the bleachers that have the audience, Sandy congratulates Larry but Spongebob is displeased. Spongebob would then go to someone roasting marshmellows asking him if he could borrow some, which the fish says yes, Spongebob would then put the marshmellows on both sides of the stick and try to pick it up but fails, with the audience quiet, Spongebob would then try to do it again until he rips his pants Infront of the audience. The audience would first be disgusted at him, but then they would laugh at him, making Spongebob embarrassed and walking away, Spongebob would be sad until Scooter tells him that he's hilarious, with Sandy adding up to that comment.
After that comment, Spongebob would go around doing activitys in Goo Lagoon and doing the ripped pants joke. After a while, some people would get annoyed of the joke , things would go extremely bad for the joke at a Surfing Competition at Goo Lagoon, Larry and Sandy would do the "Lay back" move and the "Hanging ten on fingers move" after that Spongebob would rip his pants while surfing, with the announcer displeased, eventually the wave Spongebob would come to a halt and crash on the coast and he would seem to be passed out, a lifeguard would see Spongebob and think he is a cardboard box but then he realizes its a guy and immediately come over to him. The lifeguard would think he's dead until Spongebob tells him he needs a tailor because he ripped his pants, The audience would become really mad and walk away from the incident, with Sandy telling him that was not funny.
It would then cut to Spongebob thinking of another variation of the joke he could do, he then realizes another form he could do which was to rip of his pants, thinking that this would make the audience laugh,however he doesn't see anybody. He then looks over to see his friends having a good time without him, he becomes distressed as even his ripped pants leave him.He says hes the biggest loser on the beach, but then other fishes come to Spongebob saying that their the biggest loser on the beach, Spongebob would then sing the Ripped Pants song, as he is singing the song, he would become popular with the audience, with Sandy becoming friends with Spongebob again, Larry would then ask Spongebob if he could sign his pants, he would only for spongebob himself to rip his underwear.
